The Special Role of Grandparents
Divorce can be very difficult for grandparents. Often grandparents become a main source of support for their children and grandchildren. At the same time, they may experience their own grieving process, yet feel pressure to be strong for everyone and not directly deal with their own strong emotions. Grandparents are frequently caught in the middle between their own child and the divorcing spouse and may become overwhelmed with feelings of sadness, anger, depression, frustration and other intense emotions.
Having loving grandparents can be a big part of the healing process for children of divorce, yet it can be difficult for grandparents when their grandchildren have questions and concerns about their parents and the new situations and challenges they are facing.
The knowledge of how to handle these new, and sometimes difficult family dynamics, is not innate and grandparents often seek help during this trying time. Co-Parenting Solutions, LLC provides support, education and mental health counseling for grandparents to approach their grief and to better help their grandchildren and families in a healthy manner; Grandparents can be a key component for supporting Co-Parenting, therefore skill building for supporting their child and grandchildren will be part of this process.
